Where online stores lose money to chargebacks
A store shipping hundreds of orders a day sees disputes every week. Some are real fraud from stolen cards. Many more are friendly fraud: the package was delivered to a porch and the customer says it never arrived, or the item is fine but the customer regrets the purchase and calls it "not as described". Each dispute takes the order value, a dispute fee and the shipping cost you already paid.
Store teams answer disputes between packing orders and handling support. Evidence lives in three places: the order in Shopify, the payment in Stripe or PayPal, and the tracking page at the carrier. Pulling it together by hand takes 20 to 40 minutes per dispute, so many disputes go unanswered.
The reason codes stores see most
| Reason code | What the customer claims | Evidence that wins |
|---|---|---|
| Visa 13.1 Merchandise not received | The order never arrived | Tracking number, carrier delivery confirmation, delivery address matching billing address |
| Visa 13.3 Not as described | The item differs from the listing | Product page and description, photos, return policy, customer messages, no return received |
| Visa 10.4 Card absent fraud | They did not make the purchase | 3D Secure, AVS and CVC match, IP and device history, delivery to the cardholder address |
| Mastercard 4853 Cardholder dispute | Not received, defective or not as described | Same proof as the matching Visa code |
| Mastercard 4855 Goods not provided | The order never arrived | Tracking and delivery confirmation |

Winning item not received disputes with tracking and delivery proof
For a 13.1 or 4855 dispute the issuer wants to know one thing: did the package reach the cardholder. NoChargeback reads the fulfillment from Shopify and puts the delivery story in order.
-
Order number, items, amount and the payment it belongs to in Stripe or PayPal.
-
Shipping address, and whether it matches the billing address and AVS result.
-
Carrier, tracking number and the delivery scan with date and location.
-
Signature or photo confirmation when the carrier provides it.
-
Customer messages after delivery, such as a size question or a review request reply.
If tracking shows the parcel was lost or returned to sender, the pack says so and recommends refunding instead of fighting a dispute you cannot win.
Winning not as described disputes, Visa 13.3 and Mastercard 4853
Not as described disputes are won by showing that the customer got what the listing promised and did not use your return process. NoChargeback adds the product title, description and specifications from the order, your published return and refund policy with the version the customer accepted at checkout, the conversation history and the fact that no return was started. The letter is written for the specific reason code, so it answers the claim instead of repeating generic text.
Shopify with Stripe or PayPal
Most stores run Shopify for orders and Stripe, Shopify Payments or PayPal for money. NoChargeback connects to each side and links them by order and charge. Starter connects one processor account. Growth connects up to five accounts, including Shopify, PayPal and Braintree, so a store with Stripe for cards and PayPal for wallets sees every dispute in one feed. Stores using Checkout.com, Adyen or Authorize.net connect on Scale.
Stop disputes before they post
-
Turn on 3D Secure for high value or first time orders to shift fraud liability.
-
Ask for signature on delivery above an order value you choose.
-
Send a shipping confirmation with tracking, and a delivery confirmation when the carrier marks it delivered.
-
Use a statement descriptor with your store name, so customers recognize the charge.
-
Refund when an early fraud warning arrives and the refund costs less than the expected chargeback.
Growth includes prevention rule recommendations built from your own dispute patterns by product, country, BIN and order velocity.

Which plan fits a store
Starter covers one processor account and up to 15 disputes a month for 49 USD a month, or 24 USD a month billed yearly. Growth covers up to five accounts and 100 disputes a month with automatic submission for 299 USD a month or 149 USD billed yearly. Stores that also sell downloads can read about digital goods chargeback protection, and brands with several stores should see chargeback management for multiple merchant accounts. All plans are on the pricing page.
Does NoChargeback work with Shopify?
Yes. It reads orders, fulfillments and tracking from Shopify and matches them to payments in Stripe, Shopify Payments, PayPal or Braintree.
What evidence wins an item not received chargeback?
Carrier tracking with a delivery scan, a delivery address that matches the billing address, and signature or photo proof when available. NoChargeback attaches all of it automatically.
Can I win a not as described dispute?
Often yes, when you show the product matched its listing, the customer accepted your return policy and did not start a return. The pack includes the listing, policy and messages.
Do I pay extra per dispute or per alert?
No. Each plan has a flat monthly price with included disputes and alerts. There is no percentage of recovered money.
Do I need to change my checkout?
No. Connecting Shopify and your processor takes a few minutes and needs no code or theme changes.
