The fee is only part of the cost. Every alert ends in a refund, so you also give back the order amount. Below is the full price list, what a month costs at three alert volumes, and the point where answering the dispute with evidence keeps more money than paying for the alert.
What Chargeback.io charges for each alert
Chargeback.io sells pre dispute alerts from the card networks. An alert tells you that a cardholder has contacted their bank about a charge, and you refund it before it becomes a chargeback.
| Alert type | Network | Price per alert | Coverage | Refund |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ethoca | Mastercard | 29 USD | Worldwide | Manual or automatic |
| RDR (Rapid Dispute Resolution) | Visa | 15 USD | Worldwide | Automatic only |
| CDRN | Visa, through Verifi | 15 USD | United States only | Manual or automatic |
Three details from the help center change the real number.
-
You do not choose the network for each alert. If the issuing bank is in Ethoca but not RDR, the alert comes through Ethoca and costs 29 USD. If it is in RDR, it costs 15 USD.
-
Duplicates happen when you are enrolled in Ethoca and CDRN, or CDRN and RDR. Most duplicates are credited automatically, and the help center suggests skipping CDRN unless you cannot enroll in RDR.
-
Alerts with the status Expired, Not Found, Duplicate, Already a Chargeback, Failed Transaction or Previously Refunded are credited in full when you provide acceptable evidence. Extra alerts caused by Shopify upsell apps that split one purchase into several transactions are not refundable.
These figures come from the Chargeback.io pricing page and help center in October 2026. Prices change, so check them again before you fund the account.
How the prepaid balance works
Chargeback.io does not send a monthly invoice. You fund a balance up to a minimum threshold before alerts start, each alert is deducted as it arrives, and when the balance drops to a critical level your saved card is charged to top it back up to a recommended level. If a charge fails, the system retries for up to 10 days and then deactivates the account. If you pause or leave, the remaining balance is refundable.
For finance teams this means alert spend shows up as several card top ups a month rather than one bill. Book them as a separate line, chargeback prevention fees, so you can compare the total with the disputes it prevented. If you prepare monthly statements for a board or a lender, an automated P&L and cash flow statement makes that line easy to track from month to month.
What Chargeback.io costs at three alert volumes
The table assumes 60 percent of alerts arrive through Visa RDR or CDRN at 15 USD and 40 percent through Ethoca at 29 USD, which gives a blended fee of about 20.60 USD per alert. Your mix depends on how many of your customers carry Visa or Mastercard and which banks they use. The refunded order value assumes an 80 USD average order.
| Monthly alerts | Alert fees | Orders refunded | Total cost of the alerts |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | 412 USD | 1,600 USD | 2,012 USD |
| 60 | 1,236 USD | 4,800 USD | 6,036 USD |
| 150 | 3,090 USD | 12,000 USD | 15,090 USD |
That looks expensive next to the fee alone, but the fair comparison is with the chargebacks those alerts stop. A chargeback you lose also costs the 80 USD order, plus the 15 USD Stripe dispute fee in the US and another 15 USD if you countered and lost. So an alert at 15 USD costs less than a lost chargeback at 95 to 110 USD, and an alert at 29 USD costs about the same.
When an alert is worth it and when fighting is cheaper
An alert always gives up the sale. A dispute you answer with good evidence and win keeps it. That is the decision behind every alert subscription.
- 1 Alerts pay off when you would lose the dispute anyway. True stolen card fraud with no 3D Secure, digital orders with no usage record and orders you cannot prove were delivered usually end as losses, so paying 15 to 29 USD to avoid the dispute fee and the ratio hit is cheap.
- 2 Alerts pay off when your dispute ratio is close to a card network threshold. Under Visa VAMP and Mastercard's programs, every dispute that turns into a chargeback counts against you, and the fines for crossing the line dwarf any alert fee. A chargeback ratio monitor tells you how close you are.
- 3 Fighting is cheaper when the evidence is strong. A subscription renewal with terms acceptance and logins after the charge, or a physical order with carrier tracking to the billing address, is often winnable. Win it and you keep the 80 USD and get the 15 USD counter fee back, instead of paying 20 USD for an alert and refunding 80.
In practice most merchants who care about the money do both: alerts on the categories they cannot win, and evidence automation on the rest.
What NoChargeback does instead, and what it does not do
NoChargeback does not sell card network alerts. It does not offer Ethoca, Verifi CDRN or Visa RDR, so it is not a like for like replacement for Chargeback.io. It is the other half of the job for Stripe merchants: answering the disputes that do arrive, and catching the early signals Stripe already gives you.
-
Stripe early fraud warnings and inquiries are included up to your plan limit, so you can refund a flagged charge yourself before it turns into a dispute, with no per alert fee.
-
Every Stripe dispute gets an evidence pack and a letter drafted for its reason code, built from your Stripe data. On Growth and higher it is submitted automatically 48 hours before the due date. See Stripe dispute automation.
-
The price is flat. Growth is 299 USD a month, or 149 USD a month billed yearly, for 5 Stripe accounts, 100 disputes and 1,000 alerts, with no share of what you win back. Full details are on the pricing page.
If you already buy alerts from Chargeback.io, NoChargeback sits next to it on the disputes the alerts miss. If you are deciding whether to buy alerts at all, start with your dispute mix: how many are winnable, and how close your ratio is to the threshold. The side by side is on the Chargeback.io alternative page.
How Chargeback.io pricing compares with other alert sellers
| Vendor | Ethoca alert | RDR or CDRN alert | Other fees |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chargeback.io | 29 USD | 15 USD | None listed, prepaid balance |
| Chargeblast | About 29 USD | About 19 USD | Per listings, check the vendor |
| Chargeflow Alerts | 29 USD per deflected chargeback | 29 USD per deflected chargeback | Automation is a separate 25 percent of recovered disputes |
| Disputifier | 17 to 27.50 USD by plan | 17 to 27.50 USD by plan | 20 percent of recovered disputes, capped at 250 USD |
Chargeback.io has the lowest published Visa price of the four. Where the vendors differ more is what happens after an alert is missed. Chargeflow and Disputifier add a percentage of every recovered dispute, which is covered in Chargeflow pricing and Disputifier pricing.

How much does Chargeback.io cost?
Chargeback.io costs 29 USD per Mastercard Ethoca alert and 15 USD per Visa RDR or Verifi CDRN alert, according to its pricing page. There is no monthly plan, onboarding fee or monthly invoice. Alerts are deducted from a prepaid balance that your card tops up automatically when it runs low.
Does Chargeback.io charge a monthly fee?
No. Its help center says there is no monthly invoice, no onboarding fee and no plan. You fund a prepaid balance to a minimum threshold, each alert is deducted when it arrives, and your saved card is charged to refill the balance. The remaining balance is refundable if you leave.
Do I pay for duplicate or expired alerts?
Most duplicates are credited automatically. Alerts marked Expired, Not Found, Duplicate, Already a Chargeback, Failed Transaction or Previously Refunded are credited in full with acceptable evidence. The exception is extra alerts created by Shopify upsell apps that split one purchase into several transactions, which are not refundable.
Is a chargeback alert cheaper than a chargeback?
Usually, when you would lose the dispute. A lost US Stripe dispute costs the order plus 15 USD, and 30 USD if you countered. A 15 USD alert costs less, a 29 USD alert about the same. When your evidence is strong, winning the dispute keeps the order, so fighting is cheaper than any alert.
What is a cheaper alternative to Chargeback.io?
It depends on the job. For network alerts, Chargeback.io already has the lowest published Visa price among the vendors compared here. For Stripe merchants who mostly need disputes answered on time, a flat tool such as NoChargeback Growth covers 100 disputes and 1,000 Stripe alerts for 149 USD a month billed yearly.
