Stripe chargeback prevention apps side by side

Prevention apps and response apps solve different problems
Prevention means the dispute never posts. A card network alert tells you a cardholder complained, and you refund before it becomes a chargeback. The dispute does not count against your ratio and no dispute fee follows. That is the best result, but it works only for disputes that pass through an alert network, which mostly means fraud and unrecognized charges on cards from participating issuers.
Response means the dispute is filed and you answer it with evidence. It does not lower your dispute rate, because Stripe counts won and lost disputes alike, but it brings the money back. Friendly fraud, "item not received" and "canceled subscription" claims usually need a response, because an alert cannot stop a customer who already decided to dispute.
Which side matters more is a question about your own history. Open the Stripe Dashboard, sort the last 90 days of disputes by reason, and count how many are fraud and how many are not.
Which app fits which Stripe merchant
-
Mostly stolen card fraud, high ticket, many alerts. Start with an alert seller. At 15 USD per alert, a 200 USD order refunded early costs less than 8 percent of its value, against a lost dispute that costs the order plus 15 USD.
-
Mixed disputes on a Shopify store. Disputifier covers alerts and responses in one app, at the cost of a share of each win.
-
Few disputes a year and low order values. Stripe Smart Disputes, because 30 percent of a few wins is less than any monthly plan.
-
Want to pay only when you win. Chargeflow at 25 percent of recovered revenue, with the break even shown in our Chargeflow alternative page.
-
Five or more won disputes a month, several Stripe accounts, or a ratio you need to watch. A flat plan is usually cheaper than any percentage. See Stripe dispute automation for how NoChargeback submits evidence on time.
What prevention costs at 30 disputes a month
This is list price math with hypothetical numbers. Assume 30 disputes a month, an average order of 100 USD, and 40 percent of them won.
| Approach | Monthly cost | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Alerts at 15 USD, 10 intercepted | 150 USD | 10 disputes refunded before posting |
| Disputifier responses at 20 percent, 12 wins | About 240 USD | 12 disputes recovered, 960 USD kept |
| Chargeflow at 25 percent, 12 wins | About 300 USD | 12 disputes recovered, 900 USD kept |
| Stripe Smart Disputes at 30 percent, 12 wins | About 360 USD | 12 disputes recovered, 840 USD kept |
| NoChargeback Growth billed yearly | 149 USD | Every dispute answered, 1,200 USD kept |
The percentage tools cost more as you win more. The flat plan stays at 149 USD whether you win 12 or 30. Alerts and a flat plan do not exclude each other, and many stores run both.
Where NoChargeback fits among Stripe chargeback prevention apps
NoChargeback is the response and monitoring layer for Stripe accounts. It reads charges, subscriptions, invoices and 3D Secure outcomes, builds the evidence for the exact reason code, and submits 48 hours before the due date on Growth and higher. It tracks your dispute activity against Visa VAMP and Mastercard ECM limits and warns at levels you choose. Early fraud warnings from Radar show whether a refund now costs less than the dispute that usually follows.
It does not sell card network alerts such as Ethoca, Verifi CDRN or Visa RDR, and it is not insurance. If alerts matter to you, pair it with an alert seller or with Stripe's own prevention program.
NoChargeback plans for Stripe merchants
| Plan | Monthly | Billed yearly, per month | Stripe accounts | Alerts a month |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 49 USD | 24 USD | 1 | 100 |
| Growth | 299 USD | 149 USD | 5 | 1,000 |
| Scale | 799 USD | 399 USD | 20 | 5,000 |
| Enterprise | 1,999 USD | 999 USD | 100 | 20,000 |
Full limits are on the pricing page. The ratio side is on Stripe dispute rate monitoring and the early fraud side on Stripe early fraud warning alerts.
What is the best chargeback prevention app for Stripe?
There is no single best app. Alert sellers such as Chargeback.io stop fraud disputes before they post. Success fee tools such as Chargeflow answer disputes and keep 25 percent of wins. A flat plan such as NoChargeback fits stores with steady dispute volume across one or more Stripe accounts. Match the app to your dispute reasons.
Does Stripe have built in chargeback prevention?
Yes. Stripe offers dispute prevention built on Verifi and Ethoca alerts, set up through Radar rules, and describes it as a preview you request access to. Stripe also offers Smart Disputes for responses at 30 percent of the disputed amount on wins. Chargeback Protection insures fraud disputes on Checkout payments at 0.4 percent.
Do chargeback alerts stop every dispute?
No. Alerts cover disputes announced through the Verifi, Ethoca and Visa RDR networks, which are mostly fraud and unrecognized charges on participating issuers. Friendly fraud, item not received and canceled subscription claims often skip them, so those still need an evidence response before the due date.
How much does chargeback prevention cost?
Alert sellers charge 15 to 29 USD per alert. Success fee tools take 20 to 30 percent of recovered disputes. Stripe Chargeback Protection charges 0.4 percent of covered sales. NoChargeback is flat from 49 USD a month. The cheapest option depends on your volume and the share of disputes you can win.
Can I use more than one chargeback prevention app with Stripe?
Yes, and many merchants do. Use an alert seller for the early stage, then a response tool for disputes that still post. Check that only one tool submits evidence on a given dispute, because Stripe accepts one submission per dispute and a second tool could overwrite the first.
